Editor's Note

This week's report covers 44 inspections across 39 establishments. The Clyde Hotel accounts for four of them: three permits at the downtown property were tied to substantiated infestation complaints, with a rodent infestation shutting down one kitchen and a cockroach infestation flagged at another. Sanitizer failures ran through the week, with quaternary ammonium solutions measured at 0 to 100 parts per million or wrong temperatures at six different kitchens.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

Clyde Hotel (Carrie's), 330 Tijeras St NW. Inspected September 8. Inspectors found a rodent infestation, heavy droppings across the kitchen line, service area, and dining room, and a direct sewage connection under the ware washing machine leaking grey water. Date marking was widely ignored: green chile sauce expired August 29, green Caesar dressing expired August 27 but was marked good through September 15. The kitchen permit was closed as an imminent health hazard and required a re-inspection.

Clyde Hotel (Banquet Kitchen), 330 Tijeras St NW. Inspected September 8. A follow-up on the substantiated infestation complaint confirmed the kitchen had discarded out-of-date food, completed pest treatment, and repaired plumbing. It reopened under an Unsatisfactory grade and must pass a follow-up within five business days.

Clyde Hotel (Mercantile/Deli), 330 Tijeras St NW. Inspected September 8 and September 11. The September 11 inspection found sanitizer buckets at 0 parts per million, dish soap in an unlabeled squeeze bottle, and parfaits, salad, and quiche in the display cooler with no date marks, alongside a cockroach infestation and seven priority violations. Re-inspection required after closure. A September 8 follow-up on the deli permit confirmed corrections and reopened it under an Unsatisfactory grade, subject to a five-day follow-up.

Sonic Drive In of ALBQ 1, 531 Bridge Blvd SW. Inspected September 9 and September 10. The September 9 inspection found ice machines, ladles, scoops, and trays heavily soiled with grease and organic matter, waste water tracked across the kitchen floor by staff, and sliced and shredded cheese held at 46 to 47 degrees. The person in charge could not demonstrate basic food safety knowledge. Closed and re-inspection required; a September 10 walk-through reopened the store under an Unsatisfactory grade after corrections, with a follow-up due within five business days.

Helens Bakery, 1014 San Pedro Dr NE. Inspected September 10. Reopened under an Unsatisfactory grade after the operator provided photos of repairs, pest control invoices, and a new Food Protection Manager certification. Re-inspection due within five business days.

Kellers Farm Store (Deli), 2912 Eubank Blvd NE. Inspected September 10. An employee washed hands for 5 to 7 seconds and turned off the faucet with a bare hand. Hard boiled eggs, cooked potatoes, and cooked bacon bits had no date marks, and milk dated August 3 was still in the walk-in cooler. Unsatisfactory grade, re-inspection required.

Kellers Farm Store (Raw Milk), 2912 Eubank Blvd NE. Inspected September 10. Required raw milk signage was not posted in a conspicuous place, and the store had no receiving logs or pull dates for its products. Closed and re-inspection required.

Morada Quintessence, 7101 Eubank Blvd NE. Inspected September 8. Ice machine bins held black, brown, green, and yellow organic buildup, drain pipes under the three-compartment sink leaked grey water onto the floor, and cooked chicken sat at 80 degrees on a kitchen speed rack. Unsatisfactory grade, re-inspection required.

The Melting Pot, 2201 Uptown Loop Rd NE, #1A. Inspected September 8 and September 11. The September 8 follow-up on a substantiated infestation complaint reopened the restaurant under an Unsatisfactory grade after it cleaned ventilation filters, sanitized food contact surfaces, removed dead pests and rodent droppings, and repaired plumbing. A September 11 re-inspection found remaining rodent droppings in the back storage room and a sanitizer bucket at 300 parts per million, and returned the restaurant to Approved.

Conditional Approvals

These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 2711 Coors Blvd NW. Inspected September 9 and September 10. Closed September 9 as an imminent health hazard over a substantiated infestation complaint and conveying sewage; a direct sewage connection ran between two drains, cold holding drawers held ground beef at 44 to 45 degrees and salad bar dressings up to 61 degrees. Corrections brought it back to Conditional Approved.

Golden Pride Legacy LLC, 5231 Central Ave NW. Inspected September 10. Red chile, cooked ribs, and shredded chicken had no date marks, and raw chicken containers were stacked with the bottoms touching the chicken below. Must date-mark ready-to-eat foods, correct food storage, and clean cooler vents and the ansul system; corrections verified September 11 returned it to Approved.

Moms Cafe, 505 Marquette Ave NW. Inspected September 10. Corrected its date marking after the inspection to earn a Conditional Approved on the corrective action, though the routine inspection the same day resulted in an Unsatisfactory grade (see closures).

Morada Quintessence, 7101 Eubank Blvd NE. Inspected September 8. Discarded out-of-temperature food to earn a Conditional Approved on the corrective action, though the routine inspection the same day resulted in an Unsatisfactory grade (see closures).

Lovelace Sandia Health Systems Inc, 4701 Montgomery Blvd NE. Inspected September 9. Tuna salad on the self-serve salad bar held at 58 degrees, the dish machine's sanitizing rinse reached only 160 degrees, and two pans of chili were held past the seven-day limit. Corrected on site to reach Approved.
