Editor's Note

This week's report covers 54 inspections across Albuquerque. Rodent and cockroach infestations drove the most serious outcomes: all three kitchens at the Clyde Hotel and the Apna Bazaar grocery were shut down after inspectors found live pests and droppings throughout food areas. Cold holding failures appeared in more than a dozen kitchens, with prep coolers running well above the 41 degree limit.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

Apna Bazaar, 7200 Montgomery Blvd NE, F3. Inspected September 3. Inspectors found a rodent infestation with mice, cockroaches, and flies in food display areas, the meat preparation area, and the restroom, plus substantial rodent droppings under cold holding units and in the walk-in freezer. Cardboard and paper towels lined the cold holding units and walk-in freezer as shelf surfaces. The store was operating without a valid permit. Closed, re-inspection required.

Clyde Hotel (Carrie's), 330 Tijeras St NW. Inspected September 4. Inspectors found a rodent infestation with heavy droppings on the kitchen line, in broken equipment, and in the dining room. Pizzas held at room temperature ran 106 to 115 degrees, marinara and meatballs sat at 121, and pooled eggs measured 52 degrees. Conditional Approvals
