Editor's Note

Nothing that made me reel like the last couple of weeks. 999 Seafood Market was inspected and had some violations but still passed. The last couple of inspections have not gone well. I was surprised at empire board game being inspected and found to have violations. I forget those kinds of places also have to follow the rules. Overall this week was pretty tame to the previous weeks.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

AMADEOS PIZZA & SUBS, 809 98th St SW. Inspected July 1. A prior inspection found unlabeled chemicals, single-use articles stored on the floor, uncontrolled pests, plumbing in disrepair, waste water from the grease trap, and raw shelled eggs stored improperly. The facility corrected all cited items, including pest control treatment and a replaced grease trap. It reopened under an Unsatisfactory grade and requires a follow-up inspection within five business days.

FREDDYS FROZEN CUSTARD & STEAKBURGERS, 10201 Central Ave NE. Inspected June 30. Sanitizer at the cook line and front counter tested at 0 ppm. TCS foods in the prep top cooler and ice bath ran between 49 and 55 degrees, including sauteed mushrooms at 55 degrees. Two handwashing sinks had no soap and one had no way to dry hands. Closure re-inspection required.

HOMEWOOD SUITES ALBUQUERQUE UPTOWN, 7101 Arvada Ave NE. Inspected July 2. Brown organic matter had built up in the ice machine, a handwashing sink was blocked by a mop bucket, and a sink had no way to dry hands. The facility had no certified food protection manager, no food handler cards, and was operating on an expired permit. The routine inspection required a closure re-inspection; the PIC corrected several violations on site and the facility stayed open under a Conditional grade with follow-up required.

ICON CINEMA SAN MATEO, 4591 San Mateo Blvd NE. Inspected June 30. An upright cooler in the warewashing area ran at 57 degrees, holding hot dogs and jalapenos between 48 and 59 degrees. Inspectors found a white film on diced green chile and ordered it discarded. Unsatisfactory, re-inspection required.

Your Move LLC DBA Empire Board Game Library, 3503 Central Ave NE. Inspected June 30. Black organic matter had built up in the ice machine, the prep top cooler held sliced turkey and precooked chicken between 46 and 49 degrees, and there was no working thermometer. The facility had no certified food protection manager, no food handler cards, and an expired permit with overdue invoices. The PIC corrected four violations on site and the facility reopened under an Unsatisfactory grade; a follow-up routine inspection the next day, July 1, came back Approved.

Conditional Approvals

These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.

BAHAMA BUCKS, 10131 Coors Rd NW, L-3. Inspected July 2. Sanitizer at the three-compartment sink was below temperature, the ice machine had brown residue on the interior ceiling, wiping cloths sat on food contact surfaces, and ice cream in the walk-in freezer was uncovered. They need to fix the sanitizer, clean the equipment, and repair a leaking prep sink faucet.

NOAHS ARK CHILDRENS ACADEMY, 12500 Candelaria Rd NE. Inspected July 2. The back room upright cooler held milk, cheese, and butter between 50 and 55 degrees, a handwashing sink was used to strain canned fruit, and an employee changed tasks without washing hands. The facility corrected the cold holding and dented cans on site and returned to Approved status.

HOT DOG MAN, 314 Iron St SW, C. Inspected July 1. Foods in the ice bath ran between 54 and 73 degrees, including sliced cheese at 54 degrees and relish at 73 degrees. The mobile unit floor is unsealed wood, and the facility has no certified food protection manager. Out-of-temperature foods were discarded and the facility upgraded to Approved on a corrective action visit.
