Editor's Note

This week's report covers 54 inspections across 44 establishments. Six inspections ended in closure re-inspections or unsatisfactory grades, and rodent activity drove two of them. Missing or empty temperature logs and the absence of a certified food protection manager appeared across dozens of facilities, including many that otherwise passed.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

DGS Deli & Market, 1418 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Ave NE. Inspected August 18. Inspectors found two dead mice and rodent droppings at the cash register, beverage station, and back storage room, plus more than 20 droppings on a prior visit. The store was operating on an expired permit with no permit posted. Result: Closure re-inspection required. A follow-up on August 21 returned an Approved grade, though inspectors noted the person in charge had not removed droppings from the back storage room and salad bowls.

Encino Mid-Town Mealsite, 609 Encino Pl NE. Inspected August 19. Inspectors found rodents and cockroaches, both living and dead, throughout the kitchen: more than 10 dead and 5 alive, with droppings across the facility. The ice machine had an extreme buildup of orange organic matter, and sanitizer measured 25 ppm, below the required range. Result: Closure re-inspection required.

Quesadilla Way LLC, 5305 Gibson Blvd SE. Inspected August 19. Every cold-held item in the walk-in cooler and make table was above 50 degrees, and staff had propped the walk-in freezer door open to cool the adjacent cooler, which still read above 60 degrees. Raw ground pork and beef were stored above ready-to-eat food, and the handwashing sink had no soap. Result: Closure re-inspection required. The establishment's operating status is listed as Closed.

Tenampa Restaurant LLC, 101 98th St NW, 105. Inspected August 18. The dish machine ran with no detergent at zero ppm sanitizer, the person in charge could not explain proper food cooling, and the handwashing sink was missing its drain and pipes. Baby toys, bouncers, and bottles were stored on shelves with dry goods and single-service items, and the facility held an expired permit. Result: Closure re-inspection required. A corrective action visit on August 20 upgraded the facility but returned an Unsatisfactory grade, requiring another re-inspection.

Filibertos, 5201 4th St NW. Inspected August 21. Inspectors found Raid stored in the back room, a stripped hot water valve at a hand sink, and two cooler units holding at 50 and 46.7 degrees. The facility had no certified food protection manager. Result: Unsatisfactory, re-inspection required.

Love and Care Child Development, 5407 4th St NW. Inspected August 17. The facility used spring-loaded mouse traps with nothing to control German roaches, had a gap behind the kitchen refrigerator, and had no certified food protection manager. Result: Unsatisfactory, re-inspection required.

Burgers N More, 5500 Central Ave SW. Inspected August 19. Six dead pests sat behind the straw and lid containers, chlorine sanitizer failed to meet parameters, and the hood system dripped grease onto equipment above the flat top and fryers. The facility had no certified food protection manager and no temperature logs. Result: Unsatisfactory, re-inspection required. A corrective action visit the same day upgraded the facility to Conditional Approved after a sanitizer bucket was made.

Yumis Kitchen LLC, 4200 Wyoming Blvd NE, C2. Inspected August 17. Vegetables and cooked chicken sat out at room temperature, with chicken at 89 degrees and multiple items in the 60s and 70s. More than a dozen pooled eggs were held with no order to fill, raw eggs were stored above ready-to-eat food, and the posted permit was an expired provisional. Result: Closure re-inspection required. A second inspection the same day, focused on training and records, returned Approved.

Conditional Approvals

These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.

Alonso Arturos Mexican Restaurant, 10120 Central Ave SW. Inspected August 21. Fix the leaking three-compartment sink faucet, label spice containers, cover stored food including a pot of birria kept on the floor, and start temperature and calibration logs. A corrective action visit the same day addressed several items and returned Approved.

Circle K 2622024, 6300 Central Ave SE. Inspected August 18. Two refrigerated display cases could not hold food below 41 degrees, with items reading up to 61 degrees. Repair the coolers, clean the ice cream freezer's ice buildup, and move bleach stored next to food.

Paleteria La Michoacana Del Sur, 1720 Bridge Blvd SW. Inspected August 20. Repair the hole in the walk-in cooler floor and the leak under the cold holding case, cover ice cream and toppings, and obtain a certified food protection manager. No temperature or calibration logs were on hand.

Peter Defries Corp DBA Dion's, 6308 4th St NW. Inspected August 17. Pizza prep items held at 44 and 45 degrees, 8 to 10 live flies were in the prep area, and two cans of Hot Shot insecticide were in food service areas. Fix cold holding, remove the unapproved pesticides, and stock the back hand sink with soap.

Pop Pops LLC, 6300 San Mateo Blvd NE, I 1. Inspected August 20. Clean the ice machine baffle and interior, repair the front hand sink's broken hot water knob, and add allergen notice for unpackaged food. No certified food protection manager on staff.

Quality Inn ABQ East, 450 Paisano St NE. Inspected August 18. Sanitizer measured zero ppm in the wiping cloth container, no food thermometer or sanitizer test kit was available, and there was no certified food protection manager. A corrective action visit on August 20 upgraded the facility to Approved; inspectors noted the person in charge had hidden the yellow sticker in the kitchen and would receive a civil penalty.

Panaderia Pastelandia, 600 Louisiana Blvd SE, #F. Inspected August 17. A corrective action visit upgraded the bakery to Conditional Approved after food contact surfaces were cleaned, date labels were added, and handwashing soap was obtained. The routine inspection the same day had ordered a closure re-inspection over dead cockroaches, an expired permit, a leaking hand sink, and unlabeled bulk ingredients.
