Closures & Major Violations
These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.
BAMBOO, 7202 Menaul Blvd NE. Inspected June 8. Numerous live cockroaches throughout the facility, including on onions and carrots intended for service, on the deli slicer, inside food storage containers, and on the warewashing machine. One trap held an estimated 100-plus roaches. A kitchen employee killed a cockroach with a bare hand, then continued handling food contact surfaces. Raw meat was thawing in a sink basin while the other basins were used to wash dishes with soap. The facility was closed and a re-inspection is required.
American Golf Corp DBA Tanoan Country Club, 10801 Academy Rd NE. Inspected June 9. Rodent droppings throughout the facility, including on top of the chest freezer, behind refrigeration, and inside the swamp cooler. A rodent nest with a dead mouse inside was found in the nesting material. The ice machine was leaking onto the floor, providing a water source for pests. Re-inspection required. A separate June 12 inspection of the same establishment was approved.
SERGIOS BAKERY AND CAFE, 2740 Wyoming Blvd NE. Inspected June 11. The food establishment and retail bakery were both closed. Inspectors counted 10 priority violations and 8 priority foundation violations. Flies landed in open mascarpone on the bakery prep table, sanitizer buckets read 0 ppm, and baking pans carried burnt-on encrustments. Cakes in the display case held at 54 to 58 degrees and were discarded. The owner re-contaminated washed hands on a debris-covered paper towel dispenser. A June 11 corrective action visit moved the cafe to unsatisfactory, and a June 13 retail corrective action visit also resulted in unsatisfactory. Re-inspections required.
LA CARRETA HOTDOGS AND TACOS, 504 Old Coors Rd SW. Inspected June 11. No handwashing sink in the kitchen, and the three-compartment sink plumbing was not connected to all three compartments. WD-40 and bug spray were stored on and under the kitchen prep table. The grease trap could not be located. The facility was operating on an expired permit and was closed pending re-inspection.
Little Anitas, 10200 Corrales Rd NW. Inspected June 9. Sanitizer buckets and the dishwasher both read 0 ppm. Grill cleaner was stored next to tortillas. Cold holding units ran warm, with the walk-in cooler holding food in the high 50s. Re-inspection required after corrective action during the visit.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 5700 Redlands RD NW. Inspected June 8. The sanitizer dispenser above the three-compartment sink was empty and read 0 ppm, cream gravy held at 129 degrees, and uncooked country ham was stored next to cooked ham and above pasteurized eggs. Employee restrooms had no hot water above 78 degrees. The person in charge corrected the priority violations on site, and a same-day corrective action visit upgraded the facility to approved. Re-inspection required.
DAYS INN AND SUITES, 2331 Centre Ave SE. Inspected June 8. Chlorine sanitizer measured 25 ppm, no certified food protection manager was on staff, and no thermometers were available in the coolers or freezer. The facility was operating on an expired permit. The person in charge corrected two priority violations on site, and a same-day corrective action visit upgraded the facility to conditional approved. Re-inspection required.
FILIBERTOS ZUNI LLC, 5555 Zuni Rd SE. Inspected June 11. Multiple coolers held food with no date marking, and the kitchen make table held fajita veggies, asada, and cheese in the 50s. A kitchen employee swept, handled non-ready-to-eat foods, then chopped produce without washing hands. The three-compartment sink leaked when the faucet and spray nozzle ran. Re-inspection required.
Catanahllc DBA Dragonhorn Tavern, 2906 Juan Tabo Blvd NE. Inspected June 10. Hot dogs opened May 10 and Colby cheese opened May 15 exceeded the seven-day limit. The ice machine bin held brown and yellow buildup, spray bottles of unknown chemicals were unlabeled, and food employees had no food handler cards. Re-inspection required. A second June 10 inspection of the same establishment resulted in conditional approved.
SHERATON ALBUQUERQUE AIRPORT HOTEL, 2910 Yale Blvd SE. Inspected June 11. Cooked shredded chicken in the walk-in cooler held at 53 degrees and carried no date marking; both were discarded. The deli slicer and can opener held food debris, and a cook wore a wrist watch on the line. The person in charge corrected three priority violations on site, and a same-day corrective action visit upgraded the facility to approved. Re-inspection required. Two other permits at the same address passed.
Vic's Daily Cafe, 3600 Osuna Rd NE. Inspected June 12. Three dead rodents and a dead roach were found in traps under the hot water heater, and pest control visits ran only once a month. An employee cracked raw eggs into a pan, then touched an order ticket with the same soiled gloves. Ibuprofen was stored next to single-service cups on the kitchen line. The person in charge corrected the priority violations on site, and a same-day corrective action visit upgraded the facility to approved. Re-inspection required.
Limra DBA Royal Hyderabad, 5760 McMahon Blvd NW, Ste B-E. Inspected June 8. A corrective action visit upgraded the facility from closure to unsatisfactory. Prep top cooler items were brought to 41 degrees or lower, bulk foods were covered, the walk-in freezer was repaired, and three food handlers completed their cards. Re-inspection required within five business days.
Conditional Approvals
These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.
COOL SPRINGZ, 5205 San Mateo Blvd NE. Inspected June 12. A pump bottle labeled hand sanitizer held purple multi-purpose cleaner, green chile thawed at room temperature, and no certified food protection manager was on staff. The facility was operating on an expired permit.
EL PATIO DE ALBUQUERQUE, 3851 Rio Grande Blvd NW. Inspected June 10. Make tables held guacamole, sour cream, and salsa in the 50s and 60s, the ice machine interior carried black soil residue, and the kitchen handwashing sink was blocked by a bulk food container. The facility was operating on an expired permit.
El Catrin Mexican Kitchen, 5701 Gibson Blvd SE. Inspected June 12. Cold holding units held salsa, cheese, and chopped vegetables from 45 to 59 degrees, quat sanitizer measured above 400 ppm, and the three-compartment sink reached only 100 degrees. The mobile unit could not produce a commissary visit log. The sanitizer was remixed to 300 ppm on site.
MCDONALDS, 1120 Indian School Rd NW. Inspected June 9. The wiping cloth sanitizer read 0 ppm, an employee failed to wash hands after handling a phone, and the ice machine deflector carried red slimy buildup. The person in charge corrected two priority violations on site, and a same-day corrective action visit upgraded the facility to approved.
Notable Passes
These establishments passed their inspections and are approved to operate, but received violations worth knowing about. The issues documented did not rise to the level required for closure or conditional status, but represent areas where food safety practices fell short of the standard. ACES FRY GUY, 5701 Gibson Blvd SE. Dawn dish soap was stored above bottles of dressings and sauces, and an employee's bottled drink sat on top of frozen fries.
Alvarado's Tacos y mas LLC, 7850 Zuni Rd SE. No hand cleanser was available at the handwashing sink.
BLAKES LOTABURGER, 4121 Coors Blvd NW. The women's restroom handwashing sink ran at 70 degrees, and its faucet shut off in under three seconds.
BLENDERS, 4703 Central Ave NW. The mobile unit's handwashing sink was blocked by a wiping cloth bucket, and no temperature logs were available for cold-held milks, fruits, and juices.
CACHOS LATIN FLAVOR, 701 Central Ave NE. The mobile handwashing station was blocked by steam tables and a coffin freezer, and guacamole and pico de gallo held at 50 and 58 degrees.
COMFORT INN, 1801 Yale Blvd SE. Cooked chorizo carried no date marking, and a yogurt and milk display cooler had damaged door gaskets. The date marking was corrected on site.
Divine Delights by Jessica, 1411 4th St SW. No food packages at the facility carried the required labeling.
FRESQUEZ INC. DBA Macs Steak N Rough, 4515 Menaul Blvd NE. The south restroom handwashing sink ran at only 78 degrees.
HILTON GARDEN INN ABQ, 2601 Yale Blvd SE. The retail warming area held food debris on stainless steel and plastic surfaces.
HOMEWOOD SUITES ABQ, 1520 Sunport Pl SE. Chopped green chile carried no date marking, and the floor drain under the three-compartment sink lacked an adequate air gap.
ILL CHINO MEAL SERVICES, 523 Lomas Blvd NW. No certified food protection manager was on staff, and prep meal allergen labels were not specific enough about major allergens.
LA PETITE ACADEMY INC., 6420 Gibson Blvd SE. The can opener blade and produce dicer carried debris buildup in clean dish storage.
LUIGIS RESTAURANT, 6225 4th St NW. The meat slicer blade and guard held dry food buildup, and baked chicken and unlabeled sauces carried no date marking.
Shake It Up, LLC, 6901 San Antonio Dr NE. The mobile unit could not produce a commissary visit log or temperature logs for lattes and milks.
SIEMBRA LEADERSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, 610 Central Ave SW. The three-compartment sink lacked an adequate air gap, and no certified food protection manager was on staff.
SUBWAY #42910, 120 98th St SW. Uncovered deli meat was stored next to and under the handwashing sink's paper towel dispenser, and water leaked below the soda machine.
TENNIS CLUB OF ALBUQ, 2901 Indian School Rd NE. A floor drain near the upright cooler was missing its strainer, and no sanitizer test kit was available.
TEOS TACOS, 7850 Zuni Rd SE. No sanitizer test kit or temperature logs were available, and the mobile unit was operating on an expired permit.
TKJ INC DBA Burger King, 4760 McMahon Blvd NW. Food on the cook line carried no time markings, and the drain by the three-compartment sink was missing its basket and guard.
TORTAS CHACON, 7850 Zuni Rd SE. No certified food protection manager, sanitizer test kit, or temperature logs were available.
YDI HEAD START, 8000 Mountain Rd NE. Refrigerator gaskets were made of rubber, an unsafe and non-durable material.
Birria Estilo Zacatecas (DBA LOS TACOS DEL REY), 600 Louisiana Blvd SE, A. A corrective action visit confirmed date marking, container labeling, handwashing signage, an air gap, thermometers, and a new deep fryer were all in place.
