Editor's Note

This week was another busy week for inspectors! Some surprising restaurants failed their inspections. Cold holding failures and missing food handler cards ran through the week, but two restaurants stood out for live cockroaches: Bamboo on Menaul, which was closed, and Lime Vietnamese Restaurant, which kept operating under a conditional approval.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

Bamboo, 7202 Menaul Blvd NE. Inspected June 16. Live cockroaches were crawling on the deli slicer, inside food containers, on pots and pans, and in shelving throughout the facility, with heavy buildup of cockroach droppings on walls, storage containers, and electrical outlets. Dead roaches had accumulated on top of the warewashing machine and across prep surfaces. The kitchen had caked grease and food debris on containers and utensils, and the person in charge could not demonstrate basic food safety knowledge. The facility remains closed and requires a re-inspection.

Great China Chinese Restaurant, 3325 San Mateo Blvd NE. Inspected June 17, re-inspected June 18. Soup was hot held at 85 degrees, lo mein was thawing at room temperature, and an ice machine had brown and yellow buildup inside. WD-40 and prescription medicine were stored on a shelf above a prep table with open food. The June 18 corrective action visit was marked Unsatisfactory, and another re-inspection is required.

Los Victor's Mexican Food, 2300 Central Ave SE, B. Inspected June 17. Chicken, raw steak, and chile relleno were holding above 41 degrees in the make table, and a can opener, ice machine, and produce dicer were soiled with food debris. Employees moved between tasks without washing hands before handling food. A corrective action visit the same day brought the facility back to Approved, but the routine inspection result was Unsatisfactory and a re-inspection is required.

Seared LLC, 119 San Pasquale Ave SW, B. Inspected June 16. Chicken breasts were at 58 degrees, hamburger meat at 57, and the undercounter cooler was running above 41. The kitchen had holes in the ceiling and walls, missing electrical plates, and the facility was operating on an expired permit. Result was Unsatisfactory; a re-inspection is required.

Stufys, 1311 Juan Tabo Blvd NE. Inspected June 16. Roughly 15 to 20 dead and 3 living cockroaches were found in the mop closet, behind the front counter, and under the three compartment sink. Pooled eggs were being stored rather than mixed to order, and a warewashing sink was used to wash a mop bucket. The routine inspection result was Unsatisfactory and a re-inspection is required; a separate conditional approval was issued the same day.

Little Anita's, 10200 Corrales Rd NW. Closed June 9 after losing refrigeration. By the June 15 visit the walk-in cooler had reached 45 degrees and the freezer 10 degrees. The facility was upgraded from closed to Unsatisfactory and needs another inspection within five business days.

Long Cao LLC dba Dragon Sushi, 6904 Menaul Blvd NE, Ste D. Inspected June 15. Raw salmon and tuna were holding between 51 and 59 degrees in display units, one with a sliding door removed entirely, and the staff discarded the food. Cooked meat was hot held at 124 degrees and fried tempura sat at 81 degrees. The closure re-inspection result was Unsatisfactory, but a same-day routine inspection returned an Approved status.

Vinaigrette ABQ, 1720 Central Ave SW. Inspected June 16. Live flies were throughout the kitchen, walk-in cooler, and dining area, and the cold make table was running at 64 degrees with more than a dozen TCS foods above 41. The person in charge could not name the six foodborne illnesses, and the facility was operating on an expired permit. Result was Closure; a June 18 corrective action visit reopened the facility under an Unsatisfactory status while refrigerator parts are installed, and a re-inspection is required.

Drury Inn & Suites Albuquerque, 4310 The 25 Way NE. Inspected June 15. The quat sanitizer at the food prep area tested at zero parts per million, a can opener blade had food buildup, and a handwashing sink was being used to store a chemical spray bottle. The result was Closure, but the person in charge corrected the priority violations on site and a same-day corrective action visit returned the facility to Approved.

Conditional Approvals

These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.

Hilton Garden Inn ABQ, 2601 Yale Blvd SE. Two kitchens were cited for a dirty ice machine, a soiled can opener, and undated raw sausage patties. Both were corrected on site, but the facility needs to address air gaps at floor drains and missing wall coving.

Jason's Deli, 3410 NM 528 NW. The cook line prep cooler was icing up and holding guacamole and soft cheeses above 41 degrees, and meatballs had passed the seven-day limit. The ice machine was cleaned on site; the cooler needs repair.

Lime Vietnamese Restaurant, 9800 Montgomery Blvd NE, Ste 2. Egg rolls were hot held at 65 degrees, dead cockroaches were found in the warewashing and kitchen line areas, and the sanitizer bucket was empty. The facility must set up pest control and keep sanitizer at proper concentration.

Sergio's Bakery and Cafe, 2740 Wyoming Blvd NE, Ste 8. Red and green chile sauces and roast beef were hot held at 125 degrees, and a display cooler held Parmesan at 62 degrees and ranch at 50. Temperatures were corrected on site; the facility still needs a certified food protection manager.
