Editor's Note

This week's report covers 68 inspections across 59 establishments. Five locations drew closure orders requiring re-inspection. Ice machines were the most common problem: inspectors found black, brown, orange, or slimy organic buildup inside ice machines at more than a dozen facilities.

Closures & Major Violations

These establishments were closed by inspectors or received violations serious enough to pose an immediate public health risk. Violations in this category include evidence of pests, improper food temperature control, contaminated food-contact surfaces, or conditions that create imminent danger to public health. A follow-up inspection is required before any closed establishment can reopen, and some may face additional scrutiny or civil penalties.

California Del Norte Inc, 1415 4th St SW, H (September 21). Inspectors found mouse droppings throughout the warehouse and facility, debris on furniture, walls, ceilings, and floors, and holes in the walls, roof, doors, and roll-up gates. The reach-in freezers had old ice cream buildup inside and broken gaskets and lids. The facility was closed; re-inspection required. A follow-up on September 25 found the operator had cleaned the droppings, hired pest control to spray, foamed the holes, cleaned throughout, and disposed of the bad freezers. It returned to approved status.

Little Bear Coffee, 330 Tijeras St NW (September 24). Inspectors found more than 20 rodent droppings in the back storage room, under the 3-compartment sink, and under the barista counter. The ice machine had heavy blue and orange buildup inside, and the hand wash drain was slow to drain. Closed; re-inspection required. A separate inspection the next day, September 25, returned an approved result with only an air gap violation noted.

Presbyterian Health Care Systems, 8300 Constitution Ave NE (September 25). The main kitchen sanitizer tested at zero parts per million, including at the dispensing station. Red and green chile sauce made the previous day sat at 49 degrees, above the required 41, and was discarded. Inspectors also found a vegetable dicer stored with food debris and a hand sink with no soap or towels. Closed; re-inspection required. A second kitchen at the same facility passed the same day.

Quick Track 88, 12000 Menaul Blvd NE (September 23). Hot water ran only to 75 degrees at the hand sinks and was shut off entirely at the 3-compartment sink and mop sink. Raw eggs were stored over and leaking onto containers of half and half, and inspectors found 8 to 12 dead cockroaches by the ATM and in the back. The ceiling was leaking rainwater into buckets. Closed; re-inspection required. A corrective action check the same day remained unsatisfactory.

Conditional Approvals

These establishments remain open but were given conditional approval following their inspection. They were found to have violations that, while not immediately dangerous, require prompt correction. Each must address the identified issues within a defined window set by inspectors. Failure to correct the violations within that timeframe triggers a mandatory re-inspection and may result in conditional status being revoked or the establishment being closed.

Buffalo Wild Wings 613, 1700 Towne Center Ln SE (September 23). The ice machine interior had a black slimy residue, ranch dressing had passed its 7-day limit, and flying insects were present in the kitchen near the drains and receiving door. The walk-in freezer condenser was icing over.

LFL Business LLC dba Love For Life, 7534 Bear Canyon Rd NE (September 23). The operator corrected sanitizer concentration on site, discarded unlabeled food items, and moved eggs into a container to prevent contamination.

Sergios Bakery and Cafe, 2740 Wyoming Blvd NE, Ste 8 (September 22). Cold-holding food on the prep make table ran from 52 to 78 degrees, including marinara at 78. Cooked pasta and lasagna had no date marks, and the hood system had heavy grease and debris buildup.

Marios Pizza & Pasta Inc, 11500 Menaul Blvd NE (September 22). Sanitizer in the wiping cloth bucket tested at 25 parts per million, the food slicer and chef knives had dried food debris, and prep-top items lacked date marks. The operator corrected all three during a same-day check, returning to approved.
